Description

This 1936 Hudson Terraplane Series 61 Panel is an uncommon and highly collectible version of the Terraplane-based commercial vehicles of the mid-1930s. Finished in white with red and black accents, this example is understood to have sold new in Denver, Colorado, where it was used as a delivery vehicle briefly before relocating east, and eventually was purchased in 1993 by Eldon Hostetler. During The Hostetler's ownership, the vehicle underwent a thorough restoration by the Appenzeller Brothers, who applied their years of wooden boat restoration experience to meticulously re-crafting the wood body frame of the Terraplane. Red elements adorn the outer grille, hood vents, and wheels. Inside, there is seating for the driver-only and a simple yet attractively restored dashboard.

Power comes from an inline-6 cylinder "L" head engine displacing 212 cubic-inches mated to a 3-speed manual transmission. The vehicle is equipped with Bendix hydraulic brakes, a driver's spotlight, and a beautiful wood-lined rear cargo area. Since restoration, this vehicle has been lovingly kept in various private collections where it has been proactively maintained. In September 2020, the clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, and associated linkage were replaced. A new 6-volt battery was installed in 2022, along with engine oil and cooling system service.

Included with the car are recent maintenance records, prior ownership documentation, and several handwritten letters from previous owners that highlight the intriguing history of this unique Terraplane.
