Description

In 1954, a comprehensive redesign of the entire Oldsmobile lineup took place, including the flagship Ninety-Eight series which offered three distinct body styles. The convertible models were branded as the “Starfire,” a nod to the previous year's Starfire Dream Car. Additionally, the higher powered 324 cubic-inch (5.3 liter) V8 engine was utilized in both the Ninety-Eight and Super 88 series. 1956 models were updated to be visually more similar to the concept car, incorporating a large deep grille with minimal exterior trim and bumper elements. In addition, the automatic transmission became standard and included a "Park" position on the gear selector. Convertibles such as this 1956 Oldsmobile 98 Starfire offered a high level of standard equipment and feature luxuries such a power-operated soft top and courtesy lights.

Finished in Festival Red and Alcan white, this Oldsmobile 98 Starfire exemplifies the American luxury convertibles of the 1950s. Coordinating red interior upholstery features leather seats and vinyl door panel, dash, and tonneau coverings. The power white vinyl soft-top is in excellent condition, and operates flawlessly. Power brakes and steering make driving this mid-century classic convertible as effortlessly graceful as it looks. This 98 Starfire is powered by its correct 324 cubic-inch “Rocket” V8 producing 240 horsepower, and 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Service performed on this vehicle in May 2025 consisted of rebuilding and adjusting the carburetor, replacing both front wheel cylinders and brake lines, as well as an oil change. The vehicle includes an owner's manual, and recent maintenance records for replacement of the oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, belts, shocks, water pump, and battery. This 1956 Oldsmobile bears a clean California title, and is freshly-detailed for its next top-down cruise or local car show.
